World Rural Women’s Day is devoted to giving recognition and support for the multiple roles of rural women who are farmers and small entrepreneurs.
Rural women make up more than a quarter of the world population. They contribute to the wellbeing of their families and the development of rural economies.
Because of their key role in food production and food security, it was decided that the World Rural Women’s Day fall on the 15 October – the day before the World Food Day.
Women living in rural and remote areas are encourage to work together to plan a celebration in their areas. Alternatively you are invited to attend celebrations which are organised by support groups in your area.
Celebrations will take place around the 15 October each year. DWCS would be delighted to assist members from rural communities to plan a function in your area.
